A missionary cult in Israel is trying a new method to recruit residents who are seeking to grow spiritually by advertising cult initiation sessions as “Torah shiurum.”
Flyers and ads have appeared in Ashdod and Ashkelon with a headline reading, “The Daily Pilpul.”
The headline is followed by text which reads, “From now on the chareidi public will be able to enjoy shiurei Torah on their cell phones,” with a list of shiurim on Torah, parashah, Gemara, and so on.
But the “small print” shows that the “shiurim” are sponsored by a cult called 'True Knowledge', which is trying to disseminate shmad to unsuspecting Israelis.
United Torah Judaism MK Rabbi Yaakov Cohen has filed a complaint on the matter with the police. MK Rabbi Cohen said that attorneys he has been in touch with say that the ads are a violation of the law against attempting to recruit converts to another religion.
MK Rabbi Cohen has complained to the attorney general about True Knowledge, using information supplied by the Yad L’Achim anti-missionary organization.
He demanded that the Attorney General's Office investigate not only the group, but those aiding and abetting them by printing and distributing their material.
