In 1962, Yad L'Achim initiated an independent Aliyah program, which brought hundreds of Moroccan children to Eretz Yisrael, aboard special flights.
The purpose was to create a true Aliyah, one which would enable the education of these children in religious institutions in Israel. This was done as an alternative to "Aliyat Ha'noar" – the Youth Aliyah, which sent the immigrants' children to secular institutions, which were a far cry from the solid and authentic Jewish education they had received in Morocco.
