It was a spiritual odyssey of epic proportions. Seven precious Bar Mitzvah boys – raised in Arab homes and brought back to Judaism by Yad L’Achim – visited the homes of Gedolei Yisrael to get a glimpse of Torah greatness and a bracha for continued success in their return to Am Yisrael.

In Ashdod, the boys were greeted by the Pittsburgher Rebbe, who couldn’t contain his excitement when welcoming them to his home. With eyes brimming with tears, he sat the boys down to places of honor around his dining room table, and described with a special sweetness what it means to accept the yoke of mitzvos.

“This room,” the Rebbe said in a voice trembling with excitement, “has seen many children of Israel – but never such bright and pure children as you.”

In a moving ceremony, the Rebbe gave each boy a siddur, together with some loving advice: “Do not stop talking to our Father in Heaven, who so awaits your tefillos.”

Then, turning to the dedicated Yad L’Achim activists, he urged: “Please bring more such holy fruits, this is a true Kiddush Hashem.”

From there, the delegation made its way to the residence of Hagaon Harav Rabi Meir Abuchatzeira, who enlightened the boys with sublime Torah teachings about the special period that follows Chanukah. In a poignant moment, he spoke kindly in French to one of the mothers who had been rescued from Morocco, and warmly congratulated a family that had been rescued from Uzbekistan and set up a home in the Shomron.

The boys concluded the uplifting day with an emotional tefillah at the tziyun of the Baba Sali in Netivot. They recited Tehillim with heartfelt devotion, urged on by Yad L’Achim activists to petition for all of Am Yisrael, as their mothers looked on with tears of joy.

The whirlwind tour, which had a profound impact on each of the youngsters, is just the tip of the iceberg in the vast array of activities Yad L’Achim carries out in its efforts to save Jewish souls and bring them closer to their Creator.
