Yad L'Achim's 'Grandson' Has His Bris

N. was born into a religious family in the center of Israel but was dealt a serious emotional blow in her youth when her parents divorced and her mother decided to abandon religion and bring her children along with her into this strange new world.

N. a sensitive soul, acutely felt the absence of a father figure which she filled with an Arab acquaintance she met at work. The emotional dependence led to marriage and the birth of a son. Then she endured a second trauma: the husband who had promised to protect her and provide for all her needs suddenly became physically abusive.

At first, she suffered silently, but when things got out of hand she turned to the one good friend she still had from the “good old days.” The friend recommended that she contact Yad L’Achim, but she was too embarrassed to talk to the organization about the way she had fallen into such a trap.
Instead, the friend turned to Yad L’Achim and shared the tragic tale.

The closing of a circle: The notice announcin

Yad L’Achim entered the picture, looking for ways to rehabilitate N’s life and get her back on track. With the help of its legal advisers, N. filed a police complaint against her husband, who was arrested.

In the meantime the relationship with Yad L’Achim, its social workers and other professionals, continued to deepen and N. began to build her life anew.
The rehabilitation reached its high point when N. went under the chuppah last year with a wonderful Jewish man.

Earlier this week, the young couple merited to bring their new son into the bris of Avraham Avinu. “I feel like the circle has closed,” she said at the bris. Turning to Yad L’Acham staffers, she said in voice choked with emotion: “I am the mother of this baby and you are its grandfather and grandmother.”
